Prolotherapy and PRP are Regenerative musculoskeletal injections for joints, ligaments, and tendons

Dr. Diana Trister at TriStar Health Center - A board-certified sports medicine physician with over 15 years of experience - Focuses on regenerative injection therapies, including: - Prolotherapy - Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy - These advanced treatments aim to - Restore ligaments and tendons - Stabilize joints, thereby improving mobility - Patient results often include: - Significant pain reduction - Increased range of motion - Enhanced functional ability - Provides a non-surgical, non-steroidal approach that effectively targets the root causes for long-lasting relief.

What are ligaments and why are they important?

Ligaments are deep elastic structures that hold bone to bone. They are responsible for the integrity of the joint, the stability of the joint, and the function of the joint. Overtime through wear and tear and through injuries, ligaments lose their elasticity. As a result, the joint is no longer stable. It loses its integrity and the muscles that surround the joint have to "turn on" constantly. This is unsustainable and as a result, the muscles going to spasm, causing pain, stiffness, and limited range of motion.

How do regenerative injections work?

Regenerative injections aim to restore the ligaments and tendons to their original state. By triggering your body's natural healing response and injecting your own factors through platelet-rich plasma (PRP), we can begin to stimulate the repair and regeneration of the ligaments and tendons. This process often takes several. However, unlike steroid injections, this approach does not serve as a temporary fix; it addresses the root cause of the problem, helping to eliminate chronic pain and limited function.

 What is the process like?

When patients come in for PRP they are brought into a room where their vital signs are taken and Dr. Diana Trister draws 60 ML of blood. This blood is then double spun in a centrifuge that is designed for platelet rich plasma (PRP). After Dr. Diana extracts the platelet rich plasma she and the patient go into the procedure room. Prolotherapy is then done to the area to help stabilize the entire joint. Prolotherapy triggers, your body to bring growth factors to the area injected to help with healing. Following the prolotherapy, Dr. Diana Trister well then inject the PRP to the area that needs it the most based on her clinical expertise, imaging studies, and the patient's history. Musculoskeletal ultrasound is available for direct visualization.

Regenerative injections are a process; the body is healing itself. Patients typically need 3-5 session 4-6 weeks apart depending on age and overall health.

Want to expect after the procedure?

As always, Dr. Diana Trister recommends a diet, high-end protein, and vitamin C to help build collagen which is the building block of ligaments and tendons.
